Wellfleet Nonresident Taxpayers Association Meeting On the State of Wellfleet’s Ponds: Monday, August 11
The WNRTA will hold a panel discussion meeting on the state of Wellfleet’s ponds on Monday, August 11 at 6:30PM at the Wellfleet Senior Center, 715 Old King’s Highway. (Please note the correction in the starting time. At 6:30PM dessert will be served prior to the start of the meeting.) The panel members will be Maggie Geist, Executive Director of the Association To Preserve Cape Cod; Megan Tyrrell and John Portnoy, Cape Cod National Seashore; and Herbert Gstalder, representing GUPACA. The Board of GUPACA has decided to not hold an annual GUPACA meeting in 2008, but rather to urge all GUPACA members to attend the WNRTA pond meeting. At the WNRTA meeting Herb Gstalder will report on GUPACA’s activities and achievements over the years as well as the issues and continuing concerns addressed by GUPACA. We hope that GUPACA members will also take part in the discussion from the floor.
GUPACA Wine and Cheese Party: Sunday, August 10
Although we will not hold the annual GUPACA meeting, we will have the wine and cheese social and discussion gathering that normally follows the annual meeting. The social hour will be held on Sunday, August 10th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Gstalder’s House at 130 Valley Road. The social is open to all members of GUPACA as well as friends and neighbors. The Gstalder house is at the junction of Aunt Sally’s Way and Valley Road. The entrance to Aunt Sally’s Way is marked by a tree with many family name signs on Gross Hill Road, on the approach to Newcomb Hollow Beach. Limited parking is available at the Gstalders’. We ask all who are not coming on foot to carpool if possible.

We have scheduled the social purposely for the day immediately preceding the WNRTA pond meeting. There will be no presentation or formal discussion agenda. We do hope that informal discussions will identify issues that members will speak to during the WNRTA meeting on the following day. The social hour is also, of course, an opportunity to meet and talk to neighbors. We urge all members and friends to attend, even if you cannot attend the next day’s WNRTA meeting. No GUPACA dues will be collected, so leave your checkbooks at home.
Well Water Tests
We continue to urge all members and friends to have their well water tested annually for their personal interest and to help GUPACA build our well water quality data base. Bottles for testing well water may be picked up Monday through Friday from 8:00am to noon and 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Health/Conservation office at 220 West Main Street (in the Department of Public Works building). The Health/Conservation telephone number is 508 349-0308. Water should be drawn on Wednesday mornings and dropped off at the Health/Conservation office by 9:30am that day. We will again have bottles for taking samples and instructions at the GUPACA social on Sunday, August 10. We ask everyone to share their results by sending a copy of the analysis to GUPACA at P.O. Box 1113, South Wellfleet, MA 02663.
